    Search Companion selection pane is blank in XP Home

    Hi, I need some urgent help regarding the Search Companion as mentioned in my subject line. This is Windows XP system which was infected from some malware which is not cleaned completely using AVG 7 antivirus. Everything is fine now but my Search stopped working. The search options selection pane is blank, but the dog is still showing. I tried searching for some help on web but dint found anything working. Can anyone from here please provide me some working solution? Many Thanks.

    I think you need to register Javascript. Just try out the following:

    • Click Start Click Run
    • Type the following and press Enter
    • "regsvr32 jscript.dll"

    Thank you very much for the help Javalr but that dint worked for me. Whenever i run that command, it ends up saying:

    "DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll failed, Return code was:0x80004005".

    Still the problem remains as it.

    Well guys, the problem is with some registry key and its permissions. Here is how to reset it.In Windows XP Professional, you may use the following secedit command-line to reset the file and registry permissions to defaults.
    "secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose" Remember that you only need to reset the permissions for "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" hive

    Hello Caspar, did you recently installed Windows Desktop Search manually? If yes, then that could be the problem. You should simply try uninstalling the same because it may conflict with the default search. While uninstalling remember that some of your toolbars from taskbar may get disappear. But there is nothing to worry as you can create them again easily. Furthermore i will suggest you to better go through the following MS KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831430

    You dont need to download or install any softwares to fix this simple problem.

    pls use the following options

    START -- > RUN --->
    regsvr32 wshom.ocx

    START -- > RUN --->
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    START -- > RUN --->
    regsvr32 urlmon.dll

    My problem was solved
