Session Manager Initialization 0xC000026C

Someone called me having a problem booting XP Home with the above problem
(at first it was just rebooting so disable auto reboot was chosen under the
F8 menu). Tried the last known good config, tried safemode, etc. Nothing
worked.

Now trying to boot from the CD it loads the drives, says starting windows
then BSOD with Session3 Initialization failed.

So I had him test the memory with memtest86, passed, had him reset BIOS to
default values, no change, same with load setup values. No option to reset
escd/configuration data so, he's stuck.

Why wouldn't the CD at least boot??

I can't sit on the phone all day trying to figure it out. Anybody know the
problem. He has a eMachine (gateway) laptop that has been working fine for
quite a while and has automatic updates enabled.

Have him go in the BIOS and set the CD as the first boot device and see if
it will boot from the CD.

Re: Session Manager Initialization 0xC000026C

It does boot from the CD, press any key, does that, starts setup, F6 message
shows up, starts loading the drivers as it should, then at the point setup
says "starting windows" is when it bombs.

Dave F., did you ever get this resolved? I have the same issue and was
hoping for any suggestions other than those already offered. Thanks in
advance.
