RE: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem

MSI.DLL is evidently involved with Automatic Updates. The only way I was
able to get past this was to disable Automatic Updates through my services
and then update Windows manually. I switched Automatic Updates back on for
awhile, but then I just receive the error again several weeks later. If
anybody knows how to permanently get rid of this problem, I would love to
hear it.

Re: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem

Hi All,

I was getting this error regularly!

I solved the problem. Instead of disabling everything, do try this:

Run a Scheduled Chkdsk at boot, first. After you reboot, bring up
Services.

Set the following:

Plug and Play Set to Manual
SSDP Discovery Service Set to Manual
Universal Plug and Play Device Host Set to Automatic

Automatic Updates Set to Automatic
Background Intelligent Transfer Service Set to Manual
Event Log Set to Automatic

Also download a trial 30-day copy of TuneUp Utilities 2007 and run its
TuneUp Registry Cleaner after running its TuneUp Disk Cleaner.

Also if you are running Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 or later,
uninstall it and reinstall it, with no Internet Explorer protection. It
causes crashes in Internet Explorer 6.

In 50% of cases, the problem is solved by installing the update in the
first paragraph of the page

Re: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem

Hi lumo,

But that assumes that everyone has a HP Printer, which I do not have.
And I don't have the Generic Host Process, because I keep Windows XP
completely updated, which includes the optional software Hotfixes.

Also, when I do receive the error, I just Schedule a Chkdsk and reboot
the computer and then when it finishes booting up, I no longer receive that
error.

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem.

Hello Everybody,

Hey I am experiencing some problems on 5 out of 10 XP Pro SP2 installed
systems on my site. This is an intermittent error that pops up throughout
the day. The error messages are as follows:

1-Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

2-Application Log Event Properties: Source: Application Error Category:
(100) Type: Error Event ID: 1000 Faulting application svchost.exe version
5.1.2600.2180. faulting module netapi32.dll. version 5.1.2600.2180. fault
address 0x0000a3c0

I am having a very difficult time trying to determine the actual cause of
this error. I have seen suggestions ranging from a virus to just needing a
hotfix installed. These computers are on their own subnet which does not
have Internet access and is not joined to a domain (they are in a workgroup).
This is important because obviously most Virus/Trojans/Etc. originate from
the Internet, but also because this system obviously hasn't received any
Automatic Windows updates. It would be much appreciated if somebody can let
me know which route to take with this!

RE: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem.

I would open msconfig, and use "Expand File" button to replace the
netapi32.dll file on the machines showing the error. I would guess it is
doing some normal event, like querying for newer software for ActiveX, or
whatever, and that file is corrupt. Look in Event Viewer for an event for
Internet Explorer.
