Not able to change desktop background

I need some help here with Windows XP desktop. I am not able to change its background. It is simply not working well. I am trying to apply a picture but still it is not coming on the screen. Tried to restart my system and checked in the settings. The images that I am using are based on the my desktop resolution. So there is no issue with the images at all. Is this some kind of virus problem also. How can I fix it.

You can try to run system restore. or there might be some issue with Windows theme. Just right click on the desktop and choose properties. In that click on themes and change the theme. Switch to windows classic first and back to normal one. If you had applied some third party themes then remove it. Once the theme is applied then try to add the wallpaper back. I am sure that will work.

Click on start and then click on run. In that type msconfig and hit enter. Go on under services. Look for themes. If it is untick then you cannot apply any customization feature. Enable it and restart your pc. You can the change the wallpaper. Sometime if the background is too heavy the pc takes a long time to respond. It is necessary that you must use a light weight image that works fine with any screen.
