Age of Empires III will not install - please help!

In attempting to install AOE III The War Chiefs, I am not able to
successfully complete installation. Here are the steps/outcomes:
1. Insert disk, click Install
2. Install Shield begins, checks OS, etc.
3. Message window appears: "Age of Empires III is not installed. This setup
will exit."
4. Click OK
5. AOE III InstallShield Wizard appears, "InstallShield Wizard Complete. The
wizard was interrupted before Age of Empires III - The WarChiefs could be
completely installed/uninstalled."
6. Click Finish

Nothing installed. In attempting to start a ticket with MS Support, my PID
is required. Cannot obtain PID unless program is installed. Arrrgh!

I checked my system requirements using dxdiag, and the system far exceeds
the requirements for the game in every category, as far as I can tell. Does
anyone know why this is happening? There is no information given, it just
fails.

Do you have Age of Empires 3 installed already?

WarChiefs is the expansion pack for it, and as such requires AoE3 installed
already.

Well, duh. I can't believe I made such a silly oversight. It is indeed the
expansion pack. And I'm an IT professional! In my defense, the text
indicating "expansion pack" is quite inconspicuous. Clever way to get people
to purchase both. Also, the game is so new, I wasn't expecting an expansion
pack to be available so soon. Oh well, I guess I'm on the hook for the game
now. Someone in Marketing as MS is having a warm feeling right about now.

ok i have the same problem but mine is with the first age of empires 3 not
the expansion me and my buddy went out and bought it installed it on this
computer then when he left i uninstalled it and now that i went to buy
another copy it wont let me install it at all the install sheild gose up then
it just quits but i checked and theirs still a file for aoe 111 on my
computer but their is only one or two files on it so i was wondering if it
dident compltley uninstall the first time but i dont know if thers a way to
check to see

Well, this game is driving me crazy!!! The AOE3 the Warchief is not installed too but my install shield wizard has another problem. Let me write for how it goes...
-Autoplay appears
-Click install
-Running install shield wizard
-install shield wizard finished
Unfortunately, a message appears. It says ' The Age Of Empires was not installed for all user or the current user. Please log in the correct user. This setup will exit.' What the hell is this game talking about?! I have got Age Of Empires III and the Asian Dynastics installed in my computer and they work very well. Then why is the Warchief not installed? Why doesn't it work properly?
Is the Warchief's technology too low for my computer?

Can somebody give me a hand with this? It will be better if the company of Microsoft member can help me out......

Ok so i cant get TAD or TWC to even install. I pop in the disc( and yes i have the AoE III regular version installed) and the autorun comes up and i click install. Then nothing happens.....after like 10 minutes a little window pops up that has the installwizrd icon on it and says this "1158:". so i tried clicking ok and nothing happens after i waited 2 hours. So i did it again and left the window open and waited for another hour. Still nothing. can anyone help me with this?

I have the same problem as Eaglelance - I don't see any response here...... anyone have any ideas of what to do next? This driving me and my son crazy - and the more crazy he gets the more I suffer....

Well you guys are running as Admin accounts right? might be the problem, it might not.just and idea.....

Yes - I am logged in as Admin - it looks as if Warchiefs somehow doesn't recognise that.

Kinda bizarre, wonder if the game disk is damaged?

i wanted to instal age of empires 3 my computer is preparing for the instal when it is done with that it just stops the instal i dont get any errors it just stops
does anybody knows what i have to do

Update Direct X version in your game. It is also needed that when you are running the setup the game must be compatible with the system. Basically patched games does not gives out any message for setup complete. They just extract the game in a different folder which is basically located in the c drive. Inside that you can see the launch icon. Look where the setup has extracted all the game files and then look for the launch icon.

When you install Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs or Microsoft Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties, you may receive the following error message:
Age of Empires is not installed. This setup will exit.

This issue occurs if the original version of Age of Empires III is not installed on your computer.
Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs and Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties are expansions, not full products. To install either or both of the expansions, your computer must also have the original version of Age of Empires III installed.

To resolve this issue, you must install Age of Empires III. If you already own a version of the original Age of Empires III game, please insert the CD or DVD into your computer’s disk drive, and follow the installation instructions.
