error 800701F8 with windows live messenger

I am not able to login to Windows Live Messenger for quite some days now and I am constantly getting an error message that states "Signing to Windows Live Messenger failed, because the servise is temporary unavailable. Please Try again later.Error Code : 800701f8." Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

Are you knowing that if you are running via some sort of proxy? If yes, then it could be possible that it is blocking the conneciton, for example, if you are at work or similar situation and they haverecently blocked it.

Even I am facing the same issue. I am getting plenty of different messages that is same to the one described above with different numbers. I am on a Dell laptop on a wireless network using a modem and router. Can anyone tell me a solution for this problem? Thanks

This error has nothing to do with proxy settings.

I run windows live messenger on a gmail account. All day I have had the 800701f8 error message. After every login failure on my gmail windows live ID, I logged in with an old hotmail account (which I would prefer not to use). With and without proxy, wireless and cable connection - logging into Windows live messenger is immediate and without any problems.
