| Windows opens with error (/e,/idlist,:516:1720,).
When booting up I get an error message window (contains red circle with white €œX€ in it, the error message itself, and an €œOK€ button). Error message window name is: /e,/idlist,:516:1720, (note that the window name ends in a comma) The error message is: Windows cannot find €˜/e,/idlist,:516:1720,€™. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. The message must be associated with EXPLORER.EXE, because Windows Explorer opens at bootup whenever this message appears. When this message mysteriously appears, the numbers (:516:1720, in this case) vary. I€™ve searched the registry for €œ/e,/idlist,:€ and find many instances of it . . . so I don€™t know which instance (if any) is the culprit. The error is somehow associated with my ID account €“ if I boot up with another ID, the error does not happen. I€™ve found that the only way to get rid of the message is to run a system restore. In the latest case of this problem, the last thing that was installed was an automatic Java update. What is causing this problem and how do I prevent or correct it? |

One of the folders seem to load during logon. Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG.EXE. Select the Startup tab, and see if there are any incomplete entries (not resolving a file path). If no such entry exists, follow these steps: This is caused if one of the startup entries are not formatted correctly in the registry. Download Startup Tracker application from this page Launch the program, and click the "View log" button. Post the contents of the log file here. Note: Do not post the following sections: -- Running Processes -- -- Running Services -- |

I don't see any erroneous entries in the listing. See if one of the following helps: #1 - Open Folder Options applet, and click the View tab. Deselect the following option and click OK. "Restore previous folder windows at logon" #2 - See if disabling the drive mappings help. #3 - Inspect the logon scripts (if any) |

I sent you that log AFTER I had done a system restore!! That was pretty brain-dead of me. I will opt to wait until the problem mysteriously resurfaces, as it surely will. When the problem comes back, it occurs to me that if I search the registry for "/e,/idlist,%I,%L," (note that the string ends with a comma), I just might find the culprit. This string exists in many places in my registry but it doesn't end with a comma. I think it's the comma that's creating a syntax violation and thus the error. Hopefully, this tactic will work. Oops!! I could just log in with my original ID (the error still exists under that ID account) and THEN search the registry as described . . . Will try that and see what happens . . . |

| Re: Windows opens with error (/e,/idlist,:516:1720,).
I am getting the same error, can you please suggest on how to remove this pop-up? There are the steps I have performed to get the error. 1. I removed Windows Explorer and replaced it with custom shell. So, I do not have any desktop on my machine. 2. Ran the msi installer. 3. At the end of the installation, I am getting the idlist error with file not found and it pops up the expolore. 4. I dont want to get this error pop-up. 5. Can you please provide suggestions to this. |

If your logging into AD....and you have a space before your entry into the logon cript field...it can cause errors such as this. It may even give you the <domain controller>\NETLOGON path after the comma in the error. |
