SVCHOST.EXE hogging up CPU FIX! Windows Update Microsoft Update

The issue that I having is that SVCHOST.EXE is using 70-90% cpu at bootup or when windows update is running. But after some research I found out that it was happening due to a bug in microsoft update. So to solve this problem I went to Windows Update and checked if the "get microsoft update today" tab is there or not, if it is then this is not the problem, if its not, then click on 'change settings' on the left side and then in the next window scroll down and untick microsoft update and click on apply changes now, this will solve the issue of windows update only.

You can download a hotfix that is available on the microsoft website for the problem that you are facing. When you run Windows update to scan for updates that use Windows Installer, including office updates, CPU utilization might reach 100% for prolonged periods, more information in the below link:

Hello, I have follower the above solution but it was not able to solve the same issue. I am still getting 100% cpu usage with Svchost when updating XP and Office? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank God!

I've been stuggling with this problem myself. After days of looking online, installing patches, and people telling me I had a virus.....sort of hard to do since it was a FRESH install. None-the-less, I'm glad someone has a solution that works.
