The file is not indexed and cannot be imported

The file is a .wmv that Windows Media Player has no problems in playing. It uses:

Audio Codec: Windows Media Audio 9 40 kbps, 32 kHz, stereo 1-pass CBR

Video Codec: Windows Media Video 9

Why can't Windows Movie Maker import it?

Re: The file is not indexed and cannot be imported

I followed the instructions, did a "Save As and Index" and got a message box saying "Failed to save
file" (very informative). However it did save the file -- it just didn't index it. So all I got
was another copy of the unindexed file. (No it didn't run out of space -- there are over 40 GB free
on the drive.)

Pardon me for the following comments but I am beginning to think that some software should come with
a label that it can be hazardous to your health.

Another example of brilliant programming. Not only doesn't it work but it realizes it doesn't work
and, instead of telling the user why it doesn't work it gives a misleading message. So we now have
to post two bugs -- one for the failure to index and one for the failure to display the appropriate
error message.

At the end of all this I still have an unidexed wmv file that Windows Movie Maker can't import.
