svchost.exe - application error upon start up of computer

I am getting the above svchost.exe errors and I didnt see anything that applies to me specific problem? I have noticed that it could be anything like a virus problem or a problem with Norton Antivirus to do a repair off of cd. Below is the error message:

svchost.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x745f2780" referenced memory at "0x00000000." The memory could not be "read."
Click on ok to terminate the program
Click on cancel to bebug the program

Generic Host Process for Win 32 Series
Error Signature
szAppName:svchost.exe szAppVer:0.0.0.0 szModName:unknown
szModVer:0.0.0.0 offset:00000000

reporting details technical info I got:
C:\DOCUME"1\user\Locals"1\Temp\WERc25c.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp

It could be that, when you run Windows Update to scan for updates that use Windows Installer, including Office updates, you may experience a memory leak, or you may receive an error message for the Svchost process. So to solve this issue, follow the steps given here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916089

I received the following error messages in standard boot as well as all the safe boot options.

Svchost.exe - Application Error
The exception Priviledged instruction (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x7750c039.

Click OK to terminate the program.
Click Cancel to debug the program.

Winlogon.exe - Application Error
The exception Priviledged instruction (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x7750cbc4.

Click OK to terminate the program.
Click Cancel to debug the program.

stop:c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc00000096 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shutdown.

Not able to try the suggestions on many posts due to this type of failure - never get to the Start menu. What are my options for recovery?

PLEASE HELP!
