Dwwin.exe Initialization failed, etc.

This relatively minor problem has been around for a long time. Most of the
fixes suggest disabling Dr Watson reporting and logging functions which is
what dwwin is trying to do.

I get this message on shutdown but, at least on my machine, it is a symptom
of another problem. Dr Watson is trying to perform its function but is
unable to initialize because the machine is shutting down. I am running
WinXP, SP2 and have about 10 icons in the Notification Area of the Task Bar.
Some, like the Google Desktop Search run relatively little. Others like
Ad-Watch Monitoring run quite a lot. Disabling ANY one of the relatively
active items allows shut down without display of the Dwwin.exe error. The
root problem seems to be in the WinXP shutdown routine. Too many tasks
which take too long to shut down triggers Dr. Watson.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has seen similar behavior.

Re: Dwwin.exe Initialization failed, etc.

Others have found that to be an app running unnecessarily in the background, (for a game in that case) that runs from the startup
area.

Go to Start/Run, and type MSCONFIG then look at the STARTUP TAB, to uncheck unwanted, checked items

Yes, Mark it's true that others have identified a task which can be shut
down to eliminate the Dwwin pop-up but some report Logitech tasks and
others report something else. Meanwhile that same task shuts down fine on
most machines. I guess the question I'm asking is why a particular task on
a particular machine? Is it related to the number of tasks needing to be
shut down? Is it related to the order in which the tasks are shut down? I
know which task to shut down manually on my machine in order to get a clean
shut down from Windows but I'd rather know more about the Windows shut-down
routine in order to understand what is really going on.

Question for Rudy...

Do you have a Gravix Terminator Joystick installed? (Gravis "Experience"
Game Control?)

Re: Dwwin.exe Initialization failed, etc.

If it's of any use, I've just started getting this problem
since I installed the drivers for the Linksys Wireless-G USB Network
Adaptor (and configured the Wireless-G Broadband Router), and disabled
my Ethernet card which is no longer used for BB connection.

So I'm guessing one of these actions has caused the problem.

Thanks for the feedback. However, this can be cause by many things. More
