Blue screen

Received the infamous blue screen error message below:

Stop: 0x0000008E (0x00000005, 0xBF803EB6, 0xF7AD37C4, 0x00000000)

Win32k.sys - Address BF803EB6 base at BF8000000, DateStamp 47 e0e106

However, I can't get any of the F8 commands to work.... I select Safe Mode
or Safe Mode with command promt...etc. but it always reverts back to the blue
screen. It would not be that hard to correct if I could get past the blue
screen. Any thoughts??? All the potential solutions resolve around getting
to the Safe Mode with command prompt but if I can't get there... out of luck.
Thanks.

RE: Blue screen

This error refer to bad RAM, bad driver for software installed or Bad
Grpahic card and also an infection!
Did you tried to Boot with Last good know configuration from the Boot options?
Try to test your RAMs and the hard drive health. If the procedure to much
for you you can take the machine to your local repair shop to fix it for you.

Blue screen

Computer shut down with blue screen last night after I update my norton. After I reboot it, it showed "http://oca.microsoft.com/resredir.aspx?sid=1512&Bucket+OLD_IMAGE_w22n51.sys_IBM_ibmpmdrv&State=0&LCID=1033&OS=5.1.2600.2.0001 0100.2.0" Application not found

I am quite naive about computer and I don't know what should I do now?

Anyone can help?

Thanks a lot

Re: Blue screen

What is your computer make and model?

Does the computer still boot?

Can you please post a complete copy of the Stop Error report?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.
Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Are you using a 56k Connexant External modem?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Re: Blue screen

Thanks a lot, Gerry!

What I posted before was the complete copy of the Error report I got when automatic reboot the system.

I just uninstall my Norton. So far it runs good, but I just wondering whether there is real conflict between Norton and Windows XP. I will try your method, if the blue screen showed up again and take down the Error showed on the screen.

I am using wireless for my internet connection. It seems there is not any yellow question marks in Device Manager. But there is red X on Cisco Systems VPN Adapter

Re: Blue screen

What version of Norton?

What is your computer make and model?

What is the CPU and how much RAM does your computer have? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get this
information.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Background information on Stop Error message
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms793589.aspx

0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Typically due to a bad driver, or faulty or incompatible hardware or
software. Use the General Troubleshooting of STOP Messages checklist
above. Technically, this error condition means that a kernel-mode
process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not
have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was
too high. (A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that
have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own.)
Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

You receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error message in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314063/

That concludes what general information I have on the Stop Error.

My first inclination would be to try to eliminate the driver for your
Cisco Systems VPN Adapter as you have a known problem with that device.
Try Start. All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information.
Next expand and select Components, Network, and Adapter. Select Edit,
Select All, then Edit, Copy and paste it into a blank document say Word.
Edit out all except that relating to the Cisco Systems VPN Adapter.
Please copy the remaining detail into a further post here.

It is interesting that Parameter 4 of the Stop Error produces a few
other similar reports in Google but no one in any thread seems to have
linked the problem to a solution.

Has your system automatically restarted since uninstalling Norton? If
you get another automatic restart try starting in Safe Mode. If it
starts OK this is an indication that there is a problematic driver which
does not load in safe mode.

You should not run such an old version of Norton. Anti-virus and
anti-spyware software needs to be up to date. Norton is not considered
by many not to be a good choice. There are a number of good freeware
alternatives readily available.

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.
