Error 1722-Problem with windows installer Package

I am using Windows XP. When I am trying to update Java automatically, then the problem occurs. I didnt get this message previously for automatically updating java. The error that I am getting is "Java Update cannot install because the directory you have chosen is locked, please close any browser or applications that is using the directory you have chosen for installation." After that when I cancel it, then I again get an error message that states "Error 1722 Problem with Windows Installer Package." Is there any solution for this? Thanks

To solve this issue, follow the below steps:

• Remove any traces of the failed Java installation by uninstalling Java
• Download and install the Windows offline installer package.

I think that windows installer error is generally caused by the Windows Installer being forced to execute simultaneous installation at the same time. You can try to refer to the link given above to solve the issue.

I'm running Windows XP SP3 and encountered the following problem when (auto-) updating Java to Version JRE 6 Update 21:

Java update error 1722 (as seen in application protocol).

No approach of un-/reinstall succeeded.

My final remedy:

1) Got Msicuu.exe "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility"

2) Ran the utility and removed all Java.

3) Got standalone Java Installer (15.9 MB) here:

4) Ran Java Installer and ... succeeded.
