win16 subsystem has insufficient resources

After I have had the computer on a bit, this error message comes up ....
'The win 16 subsysten has insufficient resources to continue running. Click
OK, close application and restart'
Then one of my programs, either perfect works or Print artist just closes
and I have to stop everything and restart the computer to get it back on. All
the other programs are still running and I can keep working for days with out
these programs, but when I want to use them I have to restart the computer
all over again. They will then work for a bit again and then it starts all
over again.
I have tried looking on the computer, but there seems to be no reference to
this win 16 subsystem in the computer at all. I have not done anything
recently to the computer, I have not loaded anything or altered anything
anywhere. The only things that have been going on to the computer are the
regular windows updates that come in every now and then.
Any suiggestions???

You answered your own question.

Reboot.

Whatever 16-bit application that you have running needs for your machine to
reboot.

I have had these programs on the computer since I had this XP, about 4 years
and its only been this last month that it has decided to do this. So it must
have been something to do with the windows updates that I have been having.
I will try this xp fix it program and see how that goes. It will take a few
days for me to see if it works or not. So I will let you know as soon as I
know.

Yes, but I put these progroms on my XP when I had it about 4 years ago and
only now this last month has it started to do this, before this it would stay
on all the time until i shut it down or the computer itself crashes.
I am going to try a xp fix program that someone else on here has suggested,
so I will try to see how that goes, meanwhile any other suggestions in case
this doesn't work.?
