"UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" (again...)

Hullo again guys,

Well, I have another (deadlier) problem now, the troublesome unmountable
boot volume... Dang laptop.

Here's the error message:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT VOLUME
blah blah blah
*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x82322E03, 0xC0000015, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th parameter is always the same, but the 1st one can also
be:
823239e0, 82317e30, and 82321e30. There might be more numbers if I rebooted
more.

Anyway, I tried the following already:
1. removing the HD and putting it back --> nada
2. using recovery console, then chkdsk /r --> nope
3. using recovery console then fixboot --> no dice

No, I'm not using any HD overlay software.

I can't even do a clean install over the old XP. It says something like
"found an error while installing XP. Setup will now exit."

Oh, and I believe one of the KB articles said that if the 2nd parameter is
0xC0000032, then the file system is damaged. Well, since mine is 0xC0000015,
then what does that mean? I hope it's not damaged disc, crashed head, or
something horrid like that.

And another question: I'm currently using the PhoenixBIOS (which seems to
the simplest one available), and I'm looking to get another one that would
allow me more control over the workings of my computer. Is it possible to
change the preinstalled BIOS? If so, what's a good BIOS to use?

I have a 2nd HD, so I'm (kinda) rather ok for the moment. But I need the
data in the old HD before the end of year. <sigh> Anything else I should do
to fix this?

Boot to the XP CD, and Run the "Recovery Console" Run the command CHKDSK D:
/R (where D: is the drive letter)

Uh, I tried that.
Solution number 2 and 3...
No dice.
Still won't run.

Anyway, I'm putting it in an USB adapter, and when I plugged it in, it turns
warm after a while, which means that it is spinning. So I don't think it's
anything bad like the head crashed or something. Or is it???

Ah well...
Any ideas?

You should see if the drive is visible in another system before you give up
on it.
