    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL at shutdown

I am getting an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bluescreen error all the time at shutdown on a Windows XP SP2 machine. There are no drivers mentioned in the memory address given in the error code. I did try to disable all items in the msconfig startup menu, running in safe mode, uninstalling all major drivers and having them reinstall themselves, upgrading all drivers that I can find, and running system restore but nothing works. Is there any solution for this problem? Thanks

This problem occurs because of a race condition in the memory manager. Try to install the Install security update 931784 and see if that works from the below link:

Since your computer has suffered from a serios failure, I suggest that you need to do a chkdsk /R for your system drive which is usually C: drive. You can try to open a command prompt and type chkdsk /r and hit enter. Answer 'y' to the prompt and re-boot. When your machine comes up, open event viewer & look in the application log for event ID 1001 (winlogon). Here you will find the results of your check disk /r (= repair).

Thanks for the reply, I have done that but running chkdsk did not solve the issue for me? Any other ideas?

Even I am getting this stop error on every shutdown. Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue with Windows XP Pro or is this simply another Microsoft support guessing game. Also, if I pay Microsoft technical support rather than rely on this community board for help, will Microsoft actually be able to fix the problem in an intelligent way? Obviously, I'm not going to pay Microsoft if all they can recommend is a complete reinstall. Thanks

    Re: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL on shutdown

Follow the below articles and check if that works for you:

You receive a "Stop error code 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)" error message in Windows XP

You may receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error message when you shut down or restart a computer that is running Windows Server 2003

Windows XP restarts when you try to shut down your computer
