| Re: Low Disk Space Warning on HP Recovery Disk? Ted, I don't mind your lecturing, as I'm certain that my 33 years' experience in the computer business doesn't necessarily make me a Windows XP expert. And I may have slightly mis-spoken or put an improper emphasis on things the way I stated them. But in the first place, the recovery partition is _not_ normally hidden, in the sense that a file can be given an attribute of 'hidden'. It shows up in 'My Computer' as a hard drive, and when you click on it, you get a warning screen not to mess with it. And if you right click on the drive icon, you can access the 'drive' properties and take certain actions. So the recovery partion is, again, not "normally hidden". So your assumption that my son "has clearly tampered with the recovery partition" is not waranted. It is also _probably_ not correct. He hasn't touched it that we can determine. I mentioned that I had him clean the system simply because 95% of the first responses to posts for help to this group come back with "Well, have you scanned for viruses and adware?". And I said "pretty well clean" because, as you point out, these things are insidious and sometimes hide very well. He's run SpySweeper, Bazooka, SpyBot, Aluria, PestPatrol, AdAware, and CWShredder. Each one found things the others didn't. So it's not unreasonable to assume that there may still be some infection in there that none of them found. So my original question/problem still stands. What's happening is that clicking on 'properties' shows the partition to be 4.3 gig in size with only 31.9 meg free, and a low disk space warning keeps popping up, and I'd like to know how to correct that situation. Any help in that matter would be greatly appreciated >> "I've had him run several spyware/adware cleaners and his system is >> pretty >? well clean by now..." > > There's your answer, right there. > > In the first place, the recovery partition is normally hidden, to > prevent it from being damaged. I have a Pavilion desktop and the properties for my recovery partition is total size 5.27GB and 960MB free. Maybe you need to turn off the low disk space warning. | Re: Low Disk Space Warning on HP Recovery Disk?
I also have an HP Pavilion, my recovery partition (D:) is 5.54 GB in size with only 630MB free. Is this normal? I am trying to figure out a memory/disk space error message I am getting but I believe it is referring to my C: drive, as the only time the message pops up is when I try to open one particular Word document. My C: drive has plenty of free space but that's what caused me to look at the D: drive. BTW, I agree with Alan's observation regarding the accessibility of the partition. Click on My Computer, and it's right there. "Ricky" wrote: > I have a Pavilion desktop and the properties for my recovery partition is > total size 5.27GB and 960MB free.
