    Stop Error c000021a 0xc0000005

    Dell DimensionE521 with XP SP3

Currently, during start up my computer is giving a Stop error c000021a, 0xc0000005. I cannot login to windows regularly or access safemode, last known good configuration, or debug. I've had this same error in the past, and it was because my toddler knocked my RAM out of place. BIOS is reading the RAM just fine (and I did a manual check to be sure). My files are accessible (and backed up, thank goodness) by an outside computer.

I had a run in with a virus (fake anti-virus attached to file in work email). Used a combination of AVG, Maleware Bytes and SpyBot to remove it, but I think AVG took out my winlogon.exe while removing the virus? Maybe?

I have no idea how to fix this problem other than maybe trying a reinstall of windows, but that seems a little drastic and I feel like there may be a better option. Any and all help is appreciated. TIA!

Try using the windows xp recovery or the repair option it will be better for you. so that is what i am saying here. otherwise manually repair the Registry using the Recovery Console, have a look at this link here you will get a better understanding of what i am saying here. Try a proper scan with the AVG. that will solve the issue for you.

Thank you for the advice. However, my computer cannot find the file c:\windows\repair\system. Once I found this file was inaccessible to me, I tried copying the original system file back from the tmp folder, but it looks like my problem lies in the system file.

Is there a way to rewrite this file by accessing the drive through another computer? Since the other computer I have access to also runs on Windows XP, would it be a poor decision to simply copy the system file from my working computer over to the currently non-functional hard drive?

The STOP 0xC000021A error occurs when either Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe fails. When the Windows NT kernel detects that either of these processes has stopped, it stops the system and raises the STOP 0xC000021A error. This error may have several causes. The only installation CD I have is the Dell disk that came with my computer. After using that to attempt the first poster's solution I no longer have access to windows recovery because it reformatted my admin password. Windows Recovery does not recognize my password when I enter it. Do I have any option other than a reinstall?

Alternatively, I have a friend who suggests that a regular Windows install disk would not require an admin password to repair. Is this accurate? Does anyone know of a way/place to obtain a windows xp cd without re-purchasing windows (i do have my product key)?

Do ask some of your friends about the Windows xp cd and ask them if they can get the CD for you. So you can check it out from there only and there is no other source from where you can get the windows xp CD. So that is the most simplest way in which you can get the CD, so do look out for the same and let me know if that was helpful for you.
