    STOP c0000218 {Registry File Failure}

    First of all, apologies for reposting this topic - I have read previous posts but can't find a solution to my specific problem...

    When I boot up my Windows XP laptop it goes straight to Safe Mode / Last Known Good Configuration / Start Normally menu choice - I have tried all of the above but it blue screens every time wit the message:

    STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
    The registry cannot load the hive (file):
    \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
    or its log or alternate.
    It is corrupted, absent, or not writeable.

    Beginning dump of physical memory
    Physical memory dump complete.

    I never get to the ‘Welcome to Setup’ screen to be able to start the Recovery Console...

    Any ideas...?

    All help and suggestions greatly appreciated!!!

    This problem possibly will occur if the hardware on which you are demanding to install Windows XP possibly will not be companionable through Windows XP. The hard disk where you are demanding to install Windows XP possibly will be damaged. Make confident the hardware is companionable through Windows XP. Make use of the Recovery Console to confirm that the hard disk or file system is not damaged. If the hard disk is damaged and cannot be repaired, you may need to be replaced. Contact your computer manufacturer, the retailer where you purchased the equipment or a qualified technician for information about how to replace the hard disk.
