| Windows XP reboot loop
I have a problem PC boots normally until it gets to the desktop then it restarts. This happens every time. PC worked fine before this problem, but 2 days ago "Opera.exe" file went missing, so I had to reinstall Opera. Also, for the past few months, when shutting down my PC while there is some program still running, it shows a "Memory referenced..." error for Winamp or Adobe (or some similar error, I can't check it right now because i can only get pc to boot in safe mode without restarting). I tried scanning the hard drive with Avira's and Malwarebyte's programs, there was some malware and it was removed, but the problem persists. Next I tried System restore, but still nothing. Also, when i disable auto-restart on error during boot, instead of a regular restart I get BSOD with the following message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Any tips? |

Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic found no errors. It appears to be a software problem, because Windows boots up normally in safe-mode, but I really don't know what to do next. |

What was the name of the malware that was found? It sounds like maybe it wasn't completely removed. (But in the event RAM is still to blame, run the Windows Memory Diagnostic again -- many passes. Also try memtest86+. One stick at a time. _Many_ passes.) If your problem is *not* hardware related... You can either save all your data (an emergency boot disk like UBCD4Win or a live Linux CD along with an external hard drive will allow you to do this) and perform a Clean Install... Or you can try to remove the malware *completely*. This page should help: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware Also, the *complete* BSOD message would be helpful, too. |

issue's with rebooting can sometimes be corrected by running "fixboot" via the recovery console. however, while there I would also run a chkdsk /p as well. -- db·´¯`·...¸><)))º> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com - nntp Postologist ~ "share the nirvana" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > "reqalsthree" <reqalsthree.435lrb@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:reqalsthree.435lrb@DoNotSpam.com... > > I have a problem PC boots normally until it gets to the desktop then it > restarts.
