Internet Explorer won't connect to internet after upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro

I recently upgraded to XP Pro from XP Home. All of the settings and files on my computer seemed to have remained intact with the sole exception of IE. It opens, but won't connect to any website. There's nothing wrong with my internet connection, because Microsoft Outlook can send and receive mail and the limited web browser on Outlook works as well (I'm using it to type as we speak). I've tried downloading Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari but none of them will connect either. Can anyone help me uncover this problem? Thanks!

Here are a few things to try:

Open Internet Options, Connections tab, click "Lan Settings" button,
deselect all.

Flush DNS

Click Start, Run, type CMD and click the [OK] button. Type each of the
following:

IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key]
ipconfig /release [Press Enter key]
ipconfig /renew [Press Enter key]
ipconfig /registerdns [Press Enter key]

NETSH

Click Start, Run, type CMD and click the [OK] button. Type the following:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

It sounds like some ports work and some don't.

It could be a firewall problem. Check your firewall settings.

Also try resetting your IP Stack:
"How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"

If those don't work, you might also try one of the following programs
that sometimes will fix problems like this:
