| stop error c000021 ntdll.dll (no recovery console)
ANyone please . I have a compag presario, running windows xp pro . last week my chkdsk began to hang at verifying indexe stage 2, It would stay that way for hours , almost an entire day went by . I left it running and left , when I returned the machine had shut itself down. this went on for almost a week , now when i try to boot I just get a black screen with a blinking cursor : upon trying to use the install disk I get the error stop error c000021 ntdll.dll there is no floppy in the machine , I have taken the drive out and intalled it in another compaq as the slave drive and can access all the files , the ntdll.dll file is there where it is supposed to be as well as everything else as fas as I can tell so why am i getting the error ? maybe a physical problem to the boot partition, and why can I not boot to the install cd and recovery console ??/ I have been reading others post and everyone says se the recovery console . I can not because I get the stop error ntdll.dll. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks |

What is "the install disk"? [..."upon trying to use the install disk I get the error..."] Your file system may be corrupted. You were smart to backup your files. You may need a new hard disk - possibly free if your existing disk is still under warranty. The good news is that you are able to access the contents of your corrupted disk (from another computer.) This means that you will probably be able to copy the contents of the old disk to a new disk using the software provided with the new disk. You can try this (you'll need to do it for a warranty exchange): Download and run the disk manufacturer's hard disk diagnostic, available free from their website. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est tommyriggs wrote: > ANyone please . > I have a compag presario, running windows xp pro . last week my chkdsk > began to hang at verifying indexe stage 2, It would stay that way for > hours , almost an entire day went by . If so, are you booting off the CD? From your description, it sounds like your CD may be in the drive, but you are nonetheless still attempting to boot off the hard drive. If this is the case, enter your BIOS and configure your PC to boot off the CD. To find out which key you need to press to enter the BIOS, see these pages: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm http://www.techadvice.com/tech/B/BIOS_Enter.htm http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...en&lc=en&cc=us > there is no floppy in the machine , > I have taken the drive out and intalled it in another compaq as the > slave drive and can access all the files , the ntdll.dll file is there > where it is supposed to be as well as everything else as fas as I can > tell Excellent. Make sure all your important data is backed up if you haven't done so already. > so why am i getting the error ? maybe a physical problem to the boot > partition, and why can I not boot to the install cd and recovery > console ??/ There are two ways to get to the Recovery Console. If it has been installed, it is an option when you boot off the hard drive. Otherwise, you can run it if you boot off your installation CD. As I already stated, you need to make sure you are booting off the CD! Especially if there may be something wrong with your hard drive. > I have been reading others post and everyone says se the recovery > console .
