| DVD/CD drive not recognized - HELP! I had a virus some time ago and reformatted my computer, and the DVD drive was working fine after that; I have run recent virus scans and things seem ok. I've also tried the following things: 1) Opened device manager - there is no CD/DVD drive in the available devices 2) Opened the BIOS - no options there 3) Tried this program: CDROM and DVD not recognized It didn't detect I CD player 4) Opened "install new hardware" - didn't recognize a CD/DVD drive as one of the options 5) Used this registry editor: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/5...ognize-cd.html So, basically I'm frustrated and have no idea what else I can do. I am using a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop, with an internal CD drive, and it seems to have power/opens/closes, but the computer doesn't detect the crazy thing!!! Help! |

Most likely the internal CD/DVD drive is giving out. I had similar problem in the past after using the drive to read some bad CD/DVDs, you can easily tell bad CD/DVD if the drive is making a lot of noises and whirring like there is no tomorrow, the struggling noise is almost painful to listen to. Nowadays I only use the internal CD/DVD drive to read good CD/DVDs I own, and use a cheap USB external CD/DVD drive to read/write other ones. Bad discs CAN physically damage your drive. > -----Original Message----- > From: sb413197 [mailto:sb413197.40zo7b@DoNotSpam.com] > Posted At: Sunday, November 01, 2009 12:44 PM > Posted To: microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support > Conversation: DVD/CD drive not recognized - HELP! > Subject: DVD/CD drive not recognized - HELP! > > > Well this is bizarre.
