why can i not get mkv files for movies to play on windows media pl

i am trying to get mkv movie files to play on windows media player, it play,s
avi and ect, but not oan or mkv; please help me

If you don't know how to do a simple online search
then you shouldn't be online.

If you prefer not to use the registry patch...the free
VLC Media Player should play your .mkv files:

VLC Media Player

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)
