| Windows XP Stop: c000021a {fatal system error}
Hey I've looked through the other threads but haven't found a solution to my problem. I have a fujisu siemens amilo laptop. Earlier today I got a message that there was a task error on google chrome and the program had to be exited, after i clicked ok on the message I could still use google chrome, however when I got finished doing what needed doing I exited chrome as per usual, however I could not get back into chrome as the message would appear but chrome would not open. I decided to restart my laptop to see if this would work. That is when I got the following message when trying to boot. Stop:c000021s {fatal system error} The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x000000000 0x0000000). The system has been shut down. I have tried to restart in safe mode, but half way through the booting process it restarts itself and goes back to the blue screen. I've also tried last good configuration but that also is unsuccessful. I don't have a windows xp disc as it was preloaded on the laptop and I didn't get a backup disc. I don't have any data on the laptop that is essential, so if it would solve the problem I wouldn't have a problem with wiping the laptop although it would be a large inconveniance. Anybody got any suggestions for what I should try? Thanks |

If the RAM test runs for at least several hours with not a single error...the RAM is probably ok... so next...you should run the harddrive manufacturer's diagnostic |

Can I do a ram test without booting windows? Did a rem test using mem86 and it showed up as being no errors or problems. |

Assuming your hardware is sound, a Clean Install might wind up being your best bet (even considering all the time it requires). Do you have XP Pro? If the above was a typo and instead what you saw was: STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} .... you may want to look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156669 But you already said LKGC didn't work. :-( Did you happen to install any new software, drivers, updates, or service packs lately? There is one thing you might try before the Clean Install: the equivalent of a manual Windows System Restore: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 The good news is you can do this without an XP installation CD. However, you will need to download the .iso file and create a bootable CD from it which will contain the Recovery Console. Fortunately, you can find such a file here: http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig or here: http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso Most CD burning programs will allow you to create a CD from an image. If you don't have one, ImgBurn is a good program: http://www.imgburn.com/ |

LKGC? And sorry yea it is a typo, meant to be in a instead of the s. I'll try the manual restore when I get home. It is xp home edition I believe, definately not pro anyway, and I hadn't installed any new software recently, but the windows update packs are automatically downloaded from microsoft so I may have downloaded one very recently without realising. thanks for the suggestions. |

Perhaps try the manual System Restore once more, making sure you follow every instruction to the letter. If you had a full-fledged Windows XP installation CD, I'd recommend a Repair Install, but since you don't have one, you might need to start anew like you said at the beginning of the thread. Sorry I couldn't help you, shoutman. |
