Size of a photo from a video clip

Windows XP-Media Edition and Movie Maker 5.1

I am taking a photo of a single frame from a video clip. When I save that
JPEG, it is very small -- about 23 KB.

Is there a setting I can change that will capture a larger or higher
resolution picture?

Re: Size of a photo from a video clip

if you take the snapshot from the clip in the collection, it's the same size
as the video clip....

if you take it with the clip in the project timeline, it's lower quality
rough draft sized.

Re: Size of a photo from a video clip

Okay, I think I understand, but the photo is still only about 35 KB
(dimensions 640 x 480). Tell me if I did this correctly.

Imported a video into my collection.
Clicked on the video in the collection frame so that it started to play in
the preview window.
Paused the movie and took the photo to save.

If I enlarge the preview window, would the picture that I take be larger?
I'll try that while waiting for your answer.

That's the best you can do with a screen
cap...maybe you could use your image
editing software to enlarge it.

Might sound dumb but you could play the
video full screen....pause on the frame you
want by pressing your Space Bar...and use
your digital camera to take a picture of the
screen.

Re: *Update* Size of a photo from a video clip

Just to clarify....the screen cap will be the same
size as the video resolution...IOW...your movie
is apparently 640x480. If it had been rendered
with a custom profile of...say...1024x768...your
screen cap would be that size.

Chances are...your digital camera does not
record video clips any larger than 640x480...
a few models do but most do not.

I was referring to a video that was created
in Movie Maker and rendered with a custom
profile of 1024x768,

Clear as mud now...huh?

Oops!! So now you know what a dork I really am. <grin>

Are you saying I should import the video clip and save as a movie? I have
been using "best quality for my computer," and I'm not sure where to find
the custom profile of 1024x768. Can you point me in the right direction.

Truth is...I think we are getting the whole issue confused.

If the task is to acquire a screen cap from your existing
Movie clip...you are already doing the best you can. My
mention of1024x768 was just to try and explain how the
size of the screen cap is being generated. IOW...if the
original resolution of the video clip is 640x480 that will
also be the resolution of the screen caps.

Anyway...if you want to use a custom profile when saving
in Movie Maker...have a look at the following info/articles.

To find the advanced options...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window to display the choices.

The 1024x768 profile you can download from the
following site would be a good choice. The name
of it is: SlideShow-1024x768WMV9

Once you download the .prx profile...place it in the
following folder:

C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared\profiles

If the Profiles folder doesn't exist...you'll have to create it.

John

You have been so kind and so patient with me. I think I'm good as far as
understanding things better. I appreciate the time you've given me to help
get this straight.

Thanks!!
