xbox controller to pc drivers not working

i have a program that will let me use my xbox controller for pc games. when i
launch the program it says cant find controller. when i try to download the
controller it says that it isnt a valid win32 application

try googling it that is what i did and it works for me

that is what i do too but what im saying is when i download the drivers
( wich Ive done from lots of different websites many times) they dont work
like it wont ever pick up that i have a xbox controller plugged in.

Is the controller an actual wired controller, or are you using a wireless
controller with the play and charge kit, the latter won't work.
