Problem with Conexant audio driver for Windows XP

I just got a compaq presario C700 about 3 weeks ago. I'm not a techie person so I really don't know the terms to use. From where I bought my notebook, they said that they'll give me windows vista but they just ran out of it and will call me if the OS is already available. Until now, I have not received a call. So I decided to use windows xp instead. I have all the drivers I need except for the sound card. I've already tried those suggestions from Mr. Richard B. Rufus' thread and it didn't work for me. I really need any help that I can get. By the way, I have already installed UAA and got it from Mr. Rufus' thread. After that, when installing conexant, it just didn't work for me. I also tried the driver at www.hp.com and none of their drivers helped me. Thank you so much in advance for all of your help.

There are 6 different models of C700.....you can tell which one you
have by looking under your laptop...then go to this site and download the
proper one for you:
