Access denied

I keep getting this error message access denied on my western digital connected thru firewire external hard drive and my western digital removal passport usb drive. I also noticed that I have a problem accessing anything from my 2 cd dvd burners. I use "NTI CD & dvd maker 7" to burn cd's and I usually choose which burner to burn from but now it just has 2 things saying disc image. I know my 2 external hardives work because I hooked them up on another computer and they both workerd fine.
I tried gaining ownership of these drives but that did not work also ran a bunch of viruscans and malaware software and nothing. Also tried right clicking on the drives and hitting open, or explore and that did not work.
