| DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly
Hello There , I am facing this famous "DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpetcedly " error on my compaq presario v3000 notebook. This started a couple of days back where it suddenly pops up everytime i log on to my notebook and shutsdowns by itself with a 1minute timer. This way i am just not able to use my notebook for may purpose be it Internet browsing or other work. While looking for a fix to this problem on internet i came across this small piece of help to kill that freaking 1 minute timer. Writing "shutdown -a" in the command prompt. Sure it has helped me by killing the timer and now i can atleats start my notebook , however i just CANNOT OPEN any INTERNET Browsers like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. I cannot work on internet. Can anybody please help me out ? I am desperate for the solution and request for a fix please. Additionally i have TrendMicro Antivirus Antispyware running on my Notebook. This is a 30 day trial pack. I scanned my whole PC ( after killing that shutdwon timer ) to find for any viruses or so .But all i cud find out is no viruses to delete , Please somebody out there fix my problem. |

| Re: DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly
I would suggest that if you require an immediate answer you contact the support desk of your ISP. If you would rather not do that, then you will have to wait until someone *POSSIBLY* replies to your request - who will then no soubtedly ask you to supply further, detailed information about your computer etc. Oh, by the way, if you type "DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly" into the Google search engine, you will have 2,940 'hits' giving you possibly the correct response to cure your computer problem. Now all you need is a few manners to go with that! Abusive responses will not be answered - unless I am in a foul mood |

| Re: DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly
It's good to see that you found my information of "great help. Thank you for the feedback! I'm not really sure what you meant here, so I'll take that as a compliment then. So did you read all 2,940 Google 'hits' on the subject - and also use other search engines? Or even try the Event Viewer wizard to try and get an answer? If you did all that, then you have been a very busy person in the twenty minutes gap between my post and your response to it - you'll have to teach me your method of speed-reading sometime, it will come in handy. Still not had a response yet then? |

There seem to be several ways to deal with this; here are 3: Start -> Run -> type "services.msc" without quotations Select "DCOM Server Process Launcher" Right Click -> Properties Change Startup type to Disabled Click on Recovery Tab Change all failures to Take No Action OR: When you see the timer, go to Start/Run, and type in "shutdown -a" (without quotes) and hit enter. This should disable the timer. Step 3 - Download HJT and post a log file as a reply in this forum, and an expert will look over the log file for any malware and post instructions for how to remove it. OR: Disable automatic restart on system failure (on SP2): Press F8 on restart, and see the menu item to disable auto restart. Restart, and when the STOP message appears, record information needed for further troubleshooting. AFTER YOU STOP THE DCOM FROM SHUTTING DOWN/RESTARTING, RUN A COMPLETE (NOT the QUICK option) SCAN OF YOUR COMPUTER, AND ANY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES ATTACHED, USING MALWARBYTES. Make sure you also have something like Norton Symantec or McAfee, or comparable, running to block any more intrusions. Malwarbytes is a free anti-malware software; you'll have to download. Hope this helps. |

| Re: DCOM server process launcher terminated unexpectedly
Hi there, Im having the same problem with my Lenovo netbook running on WinXP. I was recently infected by Internet Security 2010 virus and was successfully removed by Malware Bytes. I re-ran the scan this morning and no infections were found. But everytime I restart, the annoying timer still appears. The workaround is to issue the 'shutdown -a' command. How do I get rid of it entirely? By the way I uninstalled Malware Bytes since you mentioned earlier to remove other anti-virus apps. But I still have AVG installed. I disabled it before running HJT. Thanks in advance for your help.
