XBox 360 Wireless connected with USB to PC wont work

I have an XBox 360 Wireless controller and I have the USB wire connector and I would like to use that on my PC. I tried PNP and it didnt recognize the USB device. All drivers and software I tried didnt work. One said that the software was for XP SP1 and wasn't compatible, im running XP SP3 so I dont know what the issue is. Is there a site where I can get the drivers? Please help, I just bought Prototype and I want to play it with the XBox 360 controller because Prototype wont recognize my other controllers. Im havin a similar problem...micrsoft xbox accessories downloaded but when promptrd to test controller thru joy.cpl and click on properties...only advanced is highlighted...unable to figure out whats wrong
