| XP Pro Can Only Boot To Safe Mode..Help!
Hi to all, this..my 1st ever post, and 1st time i've ever needed help in 10 yrs, the pc in question is my sons, who is abroad, so it hasn't been used for a couple of weeks.. so i turned on, and comodo a/v & fire/wall wanted to update def & also app update, so i clicked yes, as this was happening, the windows update shield appeared in notification area but dissapeard soon after, i was then asked to reboot, which i did, thats when i could only boot to safe mode, if i try normal start up, it gets to the black background with the little box with the blue little bar that floats left to right, just before you get the log on screen, but can't get passed the floating bar bit, the problem may be related to the following, if windows was updating, and also required a reboot, if my anti virus program cleaned the temp folder, it may have wiped the updated windows files before windows had a chance to install them, i'm sure that the 2 updates happening together are related,.. in the event viewer is the following..system.servicemodel.install 3.0.0.0 to make matters worse, system resore is turned off, so i have no restore points to rely on. any help would be most welcome. |

Boot into the safe mode and do a system restore. Then start all over again. Won't work, the last thing the OP stated was: <quote> to make matters worse, system resore is turned off, so i have no restore points to rely on. </quote> -- Brian A. | Re: XP Pro Can Only Boot To Safe Mode..Help!
A few things to try to resolve the issue: If you can boot to Safe Mode w/Network support try to run the Comodo update again, reboot back to the normal desktop when finished or prompted. If no joy and you have the correct files and registration if required to reinstall Comodo. In Safe Mode uninstall Comodo via Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Few programs/applications can be removed/unintalled in Safe Mode, I haven't used Comodo so it may/may not be one that can. If no joy, check Event Viewer for any errors which happened just before the issue for a clue on the cause and/or a possible resolution. To open the event viewer console click Start > Run, type in: eventvwr.msc and press Enter or click Ok. To view information on the cause and/or possible resolution of any event, double click the event in the Right pane to open the Event Properties window. -- Brian A. Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48 hours ago. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. Try Last Known Good Configuration? A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us -- Hope this helps.
