| How to reset default programme to open file
Hi there - hoping someone can help! I used the wrong programme to open a file and clearly had the 'always use this programme' option on. Unfortunately, I don't know what programme I should use for the file - can I restore the default settings? Windows XP PRo... Thanks! |

Thanks guys! That's part of the problem, it's not listed. There are two types of file, one I remember is an .idx but the other doesn't have an extension...unless there's a way to see it that I don't know? |

| Re: How to reset default programme to open file
Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total Size, and Free Space. Now you should be able to see the file extension in Windows Explorer. -- Gerry ~~~~ FCA Stourport, England Enquire, plan and execute ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ chickadee828 wrote: > Thanks guys! > That's part of the problem, it's not listed. > There are two types of file, one I remember is an .idx > but the other doesn't have an extension...unless there's a way to see > it that I don't know? |
