| Reinstall Movie Maker 2.1
Getting some errors on starting MM - Windows installer wants to run and install from a location that does not exist and neither does the program it wants to lauch from. I read an old post from PapaJohn that said to go to .... and right click on the inf file and select install. Well, I do not have a selection from a right click to install, and a dbl click launches Notepad. Any help would be appreciated. |

| Re: Reinstall Movie Maker 2.1
The problem occured while MM was loading even though it loaded and appeared to be fully functional. I found an old version (2.0) and installed it and the Windows Installer no longer executes. If you clicked cancel, it just kept coming back. The only way to terminate it was via taskmanager (rundll...). However, then MM would close as well. If I ignored it the MM seemed to work OK. Though I no longer have the problem of Windows Installer wanting to install a program at a location that no longer exists, I am now running 2.0 instead of 2.1. The second issue comes from a 4 year old posting by PapaJohn that said that you could right click on the Movie Maker inf file in the INF folder and choose install. However, INSTALL is not an option that shows with the right click, and a dbl left opens Notepad. So somehow we need to get INSTALL back on the right click. I think the best bet may be to do a system restore to a time before the issue began. Mouse is just fine. Got 2.1 installed. Had SP2 on CD, Extracted the files it wanted, now have 2.1, and no Windows Installer dialog. Got 2.1 installed. Had SP2 on CD, Extracted the files it wanted, now have 2.1, and no Windows Installer dialog. A restore point would not have worked, as I have never used the app until the other day. ;) Thanks all for the assist.
