Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing

I noticed this problem today morning itself on my Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. The system is on network and i keep it updated with all recent Windows Updates. Now here is the scenario. Today morning when i finished scanning a document with our network scanner i tried to push it to my scan folder but i was not able to do the same. After few workaround i found that my Windows Firewall is not running. Here is the error message i am getting on the screen:

"The error message is Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?"

When i click on YES button, it comes with yet another error message syaing:
"Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service"

Can anyone please help me out with this? Many thanks.

Hello shipper. Just try out the following steps and see if it makes any difference:

• Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
• Here Right click on Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) > Properties.
• Now set its Startup type to Automatic.
• Once done, scroll and high light Windows Management Instrumentation service.
• Right click and and select Properties.
• Set its Startup type to Automatic.
• Do the same for Network Connections Service.

Se if still you facing the same problem.

When I do that, and click on Start, I get this "Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Sharing (ICS) service on local computer. Error 10093: Either the application has not called WSAStartup, or WSAStartup failed"
