| XP logs me off after some idle time
I've got a frustrating problem. I just put a new motherboard in my machine, and I've noticed that after some amount of idle time (not exactly sure how much yet), Windows XP will automatically log me out, shutting down all my applications. I've turned off the screen saver, and disabled all Wake On Lan settings in the BIOS and ethernet adapter properties, yet it persists. Anyone know how to log what's happening, or have a tip on how to disable this auto logoff? THANKS |

This is typically seen in enterprise machines, where the network administrator implements an idle time time-out as a security measure. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est bigwheelrally@gmail.com wrote: > I've got a frustrating problem. It is likely that the installation of the new motherboard reset these policies to the default value. Jim |

Hi, The Group Policy that Len and Jim are referring to, sets the following registry value: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters] "autodisconnect"=dword:ffffffff ....and is set/disabled by going opening the Group Policy Editor (found in 'Administrative Tools' on the 'Start Menu') and going to 'Computer Configuration' > 'Windows Settings' > 'Local Policies' > 'Security Options' and then look up the value for: 'Microsoft Network Server: Amount of idle time required before suspend' ....this should be set to 0 [zero] to disable it. However, I have noticed a second reg key which may also be set, very near to the first: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters] ....this is also worth checking out if the same "autodisconnect" value is present. == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. <bigwheelrally@gmail.com> wrote in message news:6713d7a0-a426-4c83-8462-bb30d65b5729@t36g2000prt.googlegroups.com... > I've got a frustrating problem.
