Cannot install Flash player, tried everything!

After my laptop was acting slow and had other complications, I put it back to factory settings etc. After that i was unable to install Adobe Flash.
I have tried everything the adobe site recommands: (I am the system administrator, my security programs consist of: PCtools Antivirus, PCtools Threatfire, PCtools Firewall Plus in addition to the Windows XP's own firewall. When add or remove programs is opened, I do not see Adone Flash player present.)

What I have tried so far:
    1. To download Flash from the adobe page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
It doesn't seen to do much at first, but then my firewall detects activity and I grant permission to all Adobe activity. Then the message comes up:
Adobe Flash Player Active X Setup:
Failed to install, for troubleshouting tips, please see www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166
    2. I went to this Adobe page where it said to uninstall al previous versions. so I ran that although no older version would prob be present from this page: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...4157&sliceId=1
    Windows: uninstall_flash_player.exe (205 KB) (updated 2/24/08)
    3. I rebooted
    4. I opened the same troubleshooting page as before (tn_19166) to see what to do next. I tried downloading Flash again, with the same result. I ran the uninstall tool again and rebooted.
    5. I checked my IE settings for Active X and Java, but they already where like it was advised on that page.
    6. The next tip on the troubleshouting page, is that there might be a problem in the registery: A damaged Windows system registry or incorrect permissions in the registry may prevent Flash Player from installing or registering correctly.
Symptoms of a damaged registry or incorrect permissions may include:

    Error during Flash Player installation:
'Failed to install. For Troubleshooting please see: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166'
So I downloaded SubInACL from Microsoft to fix permission issues that prevent the Flash Player installation from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
As advised on the Adobe troubleshouting page:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...34cb&sliceId=2
    7. SubInACL.exe was saved to the folder C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\ and I installed it.
    8. Then I downloaded the reset_fp10.zip file and unzipped it to the same folder. I double clicked reset_fp10.cmd and the command prompt window opened. It finished in a few seconds, during which i did nothing and I then pressed a key to exit it.
    9. I tried once more to install flash, the same error occured after which I ran the uninst tool again and rebooted again.
    10. After this I downloaded PCtools regestry mechanic, installed it and ran it. It found around 475 problems, but woul only fix 6 in this free version.
    11. Tried to install it again, same rsults, same actions. No I ran out of ideas. I have read all the posts and replys in this forum, but all were different problems. What can I do now?

I can offer you some help here. First go in your system and just remove Threatfire. Ensure that it is properly cleaned. Then the next thing you have to do is disable your security application for sometime. Just turn off your firewall and other antivirus service and then test back. Then download a reasonable registry repair software and scan your pc to resolve pending registry errors. Then once you done with the same try to install flash.

Looks like your OS is having some kind of file bug due to which you are facing the problem. It is essential that you must simply run system restore. This can give you some fix. When you run system restore your old settings are restored back due to which ample of issues are resolved. But if still you are facing problem with the same then you can try one more thing. Try to run a repair setup through windows disc and test back.

Hi there, thanks for the tips. I followed your steps through step 7. That file asks to insert a CD for flash, which I don;t have, and therefore cannont install. I tried the install version form the adobe site at this point, but I got the same error. I did step 8, and 9 was entered into the registery. Tried the install again, same problem......
Are there more ideas out there???

    HI
I was checking out another thread and read this:

"Download the utility AddonConfigurator from here:
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/addonconfig.htm

Run the utility and then type the following CLSID in the Text box exactly

    {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}

Click the "View add-on information" button and post the LOG here."

I did it, and got this log:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Add-on Configurator for Windows XP Service Pack 2 - View Add-on Report
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Add-on Class Id : {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}
Add-on Description : (No description available)
Add-on FileName : (No filename available)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the status of the particular Add-on
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is Kill-bit set for this Add-on? : FALSE

Is the Add-on disabled via Policies - (Per user)? : FALSE

Is the Add-on disabled via Policies - (Per system)? : FALSE

Is the Add-on disabled by user - (Per user basis)? : FALSE

Is the Add-on disabled by user - (Per system basis)? : FALSE
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Windows XP Troubleshooting : http://windowsxp.mvps.org
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Then I tried this:
    Possible workarounds:

    1. Try adding the website to your Trusted Zone _Temporarily_
    2. Try this from Start, Run:

    regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\macromed\flash\Flash.ocx
But I got the message: Windows cannot find this file etc. etc.

    More ideas?
