Path to Executable Wrong in BITS and WUAUSERV

I have installed Windows XP SP3 on my pc. The BITS and WUAUSERV have wrong path to executable. Can anyone tell me a way to edit the path in services, local? It might have happened when a worm or virus attacked. I am also getting messages to turn on automatic updates but when I try then I cannot find file message pops up. I ran the "windows-kb890830-v2.8" and also running One Care. BITS is not starting because the path is wrong and reads %fystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs. Please help me to change this as I cannot turn on Automatic updates? Thanks.

Normally, the path to the services are held at their respective keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

This file is named "fix.reg" and not "fix.reg.txt", so try to rename it to "fix.reg" and then double click it or right click it and select Merge. If anyone is facing importing error then copy paste the below lines into the run box, one at a time:

reg delete HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS
reg delete HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

And also copy the below one too:
(enter the path to fix.reg)

reg import "C:\Path To\fix.reg"
