| Drive not detected
I had to do a low level format of my hard drive to remove partions so that I could make an image from one identical PC to the other (because PC I was imaging had no partitions). I have created the new drive with both Driveimage XML and with Ghost, but it still will not boot. I simply get a flashing cursor at the top of the screen. I only have one drive/partition, when I connect it as a slave to the other machine, all of the files appear to be intact on the copies including system files. The hard drive previously worked without any issues. I have tried bootcfg, fixmbr, fixboot with no luck. I see format/s or sys dos commands are no longer available under XP. What else can I do? |

When you have the drive connected as slave to your other machine rt click on MyComputer>select Manage>Disk Management. Can you rt click on the drive and select Mark as Active? [quote=Rich Barry;4255723]When you have the drive connected as slave to your other machine rt click on MyComputer>select Manage>Disk Management. Can you rt click on the drive and select Mark as Active? Well, that did help... I got the drive to boot xp, but it seems to freeze up just after initial windows splash screen and just before welcome screen comes up. I did try reimaging again to see if that would help, but same result. Any suggestions for new problem? lol |

If you truly did a low-level format, you destroyed the drive. Modern drives cannot take low-level formatting. But perhaps you just used one of those programs which wrote zeros everywhere on the drive; that would not destroy the drive. But unfortunately some people mistakenly call such programs low-level format. And you did *not* need to do either of those things. |
