| Restrict a user's access during certain times..
We have one computer in our bedroom. I've blocked access to the internet and games using Windows SteadyState for one user. I manually turn it on and off during certain times. It's off after bedtime and during the day when her mother sleeps. I'm planning on putting my older computer in the living room, so she won't have to come in our bedroom to use ours. It has Windows XP Pro. It'll be for anyone to use, but is there a way I can make it so a certain user cannot login after a certain time of the day? We don't want my Girlfriends 14 year old Daughter on after bedtime. I don't want to have to login and set a password every night then remove it in the morning just to restrict access. We're on Verizon FIOS, so in my Firewall/Router I can restrict internet access for that computer to the interet during certain times, but I want a way to restrict everything for one user, yet if I go to use the computer on my account I'd be able to. |

You want parental control software. Not only will it put your mind to rest, it will protect the children from the bad stuff on the internet. Net Nanny is widely known but there are other excellent products as well. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est shawn wrote: > We have one computer in our bedroom. I will look into those products. I heard good and bad things about Net Nanny. I heard you can easily get around the program or get it to not run. What I don't like about Net Nanny is it pops up a program that tells you your blocked or restricted. I'd rather it just block things silently. I will have to see if Net Nanny can be installed on administrator account and control other user. I don't want it running in the bedroom computer while I'm playing games or something. Would be nice to be able to throttle a users bandwidth also. I don't want something like Limewire sucking up any bandwidth. If I throttle it to DIALUP speed, then maybe she won't even want to use it anymore. I wanted to do the same for my son but could not do as he would interfere the boot process and change the time some how and the restrictions were getting bypassed. I installed kidlogger to log his habits and also user the ner user command in win XP command prompt to impose the restrictions. For using the restrictions please ensure the following 1. You have the Admin rights and the child has to be a limited user only 2. Install the Kid logger 3. Open the command prompt from Start--> Run--> cmd "Enter" your black screen comes up and there you have to type the following commands to add restrictions i.e. give restrictions from 14-15 every day ner user username password/times:Su-Sa,14-15; to remove restrictions: # net user username password/*] /times:all Note the user names and passwords are of the user. Also I restricted the user from changing the password. |
