However, there are important differences between these operating systems, which affect the connection of external devices via a USB port. Win XP has many built-in drivers. For Win 2000, you will probably need to install specific drivers for the device. Please correct me if I am wrong. However, I presume you have a camera - and when you tried to connect it to your computer, you received the "detected unknown device" error message. If so, the first step is to identify the precise make and model of the camera. Then, you will need to obtain and install the correct drivers. The manufacturer may be able to help (always assuming that the manufacturer can provide drivers for the Win 2000 operating system). Without suitable drivers, Win 2000 will not recognise the device - and it won't work. |

Now that's an understatement. There's a reason that updated drivers are often hard to come by: driver development is not easy. To start, you would need to know exactly what the camera is and what its technical details are in *extreme* detail. But since you don't even know what the cam is, you aren't going to have much luck getting that info. > the manufacture for the camera unknown ...when i purchased it was said to > be > compatable with windows 2000 pnp ive asked the sender for software i hope > this will work Even if the value of your time was zero, you would likely find it cheaper to just get another cam that is supported in W2K.
