| Image viewer
Hi All Hope someone can help with my first post. I had a lot of photos which were taken off two different cameras. They were stored in a folder and all the photographs were clearly visable as thumbnails. I today thought I would tidy up and move into several sub-folders. I opened and named several new folders and dragged the pictures into the relevant sub folder. Now the pictures can not be seen as a thumbnail although a JPEG file still shows with the appropriate picture number. The size looks correct also. When I click on the pictures it states - No preview available. Please can someone tell me what I have done wrong and how I can rectify the problem. All the files show as JPEG files. All help and advice appreciated. Cheers Dan |

| Re: Image viewer
It sounds as though the original folder was configured to show its content in "Thumbnails" view - but the sub-folders are configured to show the content in "Details" view. What happens, when you open one of the new subfolders (using Windows Explorer) and click on "View" (at the top of the window)? Does a drop down menu appear - and if so, does the menu offer the following options? Thumbnails Tiles Icons List Details What happens, if you click on "Thumbnails" from the drop-down menu? Can you change the view to a complete set of thumbnail images, showing every picture in the folder? Hi Bob Thanks for the reply. I tried all the different view options yesterday. Looked at the files as thumbnails. The files show as Jpeg files but the actual picture images do not show. Really worried as have some photos on the system that I don't have copies of. Thanks Dan |

However, I still wonder whether the entries in the sub-folders are short-cuts, and not definitive files. If you have not done so already, open Control Panel and click on Folder Options, followed by View. Scroll down and make sure the box marked "Hide file extensions for known file types" is NOT checked. I presume you know the names of the problem picture files. If so, try a search of your entire hard drive. Search against one of the file names - but WITHOUT the jpg or jpeg file extension. For instance, if the full file name is "IMG_001.jpg", search against "IMG_001.*" . When you search, include "All files and folders" - NOT merely "Pictures, music or video". Also, include "System Folders", "Hidden Files and Folders" and "Subfolders" in your search (check the relevant boxes under advanced search options). It is just possible that your search might find more than one example of the picture file - or other examples with different file extensions. On the subject of newsgroup etiquette, please do not delete previous contributions from your reply. It is much easier to follow a complete thread. |
