| Changing the install key
I have bought a second hand computer and it has an illegal windows copy. I have open license and I want to register it with my key. I remember there was a small program you could download from Microsoft to change the License key. Can anyone point me the link please? Thanks. BTW. the link you gave is good for SP2 but not for SP3 tThis is the new link by MS http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/sel...displaylang=en I read that you cannot use this if the windows installed is OEM, only if it is also a VL. For OEM you need to do a replacement install or whatever they call it. Will it not remove some personnal settings and other registration information? Like AVG license that will be changed and also Adobe serials will not be recognized. For OEM you need to do a replacement Installation because it is a different Installationmedium you use for installation. There are some different Installationversions of WinXP. Another Question: you're German? Because, if yes it is easyer to comunicate, because I'am German! Freemax2 |

If I acquired a used computer, the first thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy porn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do either. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

Well, that's pretty freaking extreme, but Ken DOES make an excellent point... I'd suggest you purchase a new, legal copy of Microsoft Windows, and repartition/reformat and reinstall Windows. You'll sleep safer at night!
