Need help-Blue screen STOP message 0x8E (0xC0000005) Win32k.sys E

Hi,

My name is Stan. My notebook is installed windows XP Pro SP2.
I am addressing a issue with blue screen right after you start my notebook.
Safemode, last know config, normal model all give me the same STOP error.

Error detail:
----------------------------------
STOP 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xBF803E96, 0xF8003C94,0x00000000)
Win32k.sys - address BF803E96 base at BF800000, Datastamp 48ce4da7
----------------------------------

Details on what's happening:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My notebook has virus, and I installed norton 2003 and updated to the
current virus def. After the full system scan, it got 180 infected files.
(trojan etc)56 has been fixed, about 65 has been quantinted, and norton try
to delete the rest of the 60 files which is failed in the end. So, I am
planning to do another full scan in the safe mode and hopefully norton can
delete those files (most of them are .dll fils).
I select start-->turn off my computer--> and realized that the option "turn
off" shows that there are updates available for install. I did NOT choose
turn off, I chose "Restart". After that click. Computer is in this blue
screen for the entire day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I do a lots of research, the idea is the error code 0xC0000005 means
STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
A memory access violation occurred.

Also, because of win32k.sys is showing, the solution is I was been told is
to use Recovery Console to disable the services file that the remote program
is using.

I Guess it would be Norton I just installed. So, I use Recovery Console to
disable the Service_Auto_Start service below:
Browser, ccEvtmgr, Navapsvc, npkcrypt, Symlcbrd, Symantec Core LC,SymTDI,
Symwsc.

It did NOT change anything. I also try to disbale some root service. The
computer give me a different STOP message which I searched is because of the
Root service I disabled. So i put it back.

Now, I don't know what to do, please help. ~

Oh, I should say when the computer is about to restart, I saw a warning
message pop-up says the memory is not readable something like that.

And If someone can help me, I really don't want to reinstall OS.

Thanks~

You want to go back to an old copy of the registry, before the Norton's.

Re: Need help-Blue screen STOP message 0x8E (0xC0000005) Win32k.sy

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply, I will try it later when I get back home since someon
took the XP installation CD away.

So, I should check memory first ? or restore the old Registry? I think I
should make sure the memory is good to go~

I will let you know if the issue has been resolved.

Thanks

Stan

Hi Mark,

Based on the procedure in the article "restore the registry" , I am not able
to get into safe mode. How can I do step 2 in there. I already step 1.

My situation is : Not able to get in to the GUI interface in mode.

Please advise. Thanks a lot.

Re: Need help-Blue screen STOP message 0x8E (0xC0000005) Win32k.sy

Since it did not work with the Norton's removed, it's probably your Ram
chips that have failed.

IF

you have 4 chips installed, removing first one pair, then the other, and
trying to boot may isolate the bad ram, and tell you what to replace.

It is also possible that the hard drive, or it's controller on the
motherboard are bad. Without some way to test all that, you are stuck with
guessing, and in today's world, repair may cost you more than a new system.
