| Application Sharing between XP and Vista
The nice feature of Windows Messenger on XP is that you can 'share' an application with another user. In other words, show them your desktop like a presentaiton or a web site maybe. However, Windows Messenger doesn't work on Vista and Live Messenger doesn't seem to have this feature installed. Can anyone suggets a way of sharing an application between XP and Vista users without having to buy and install MOC server? Or for that matter between two Vista users? Thanks |

Hi, The replacement for the Application Sharing feature is Office SharedView, which is completely free and requires no server. You can find it here: http://www.sharedview.com Although there is no direct Messenger integration, you can send the invitation link via Messenger just by copy/pasting. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "robbieg" <robbieg@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:19246547-FA3F-42CA-AA6A-657A0942D74F@microsoft.com... > The nice feature of Windows Messenger on XP is that you can 'share' an > application with another user. | Re: Application Sharing between XP and Vista
So am I right in understanding that Office SharedView will run on XP and must be installed on the XP machine if I want to application share between my Vista machine and remote XP machine? I've just installed SharedView on my Vista machine, but I'm not sure how it will communicate with remote XP machine. The old XP Messenger way was much better as it was easy to get someone on the other end to do it. Now I will have to ask them to install SharedView before we can share. Perhaps there are many other advantages that will outway the inconvenience of having to install a program. I hope so, can't wait to try it out. W. |

| Re: Application Sharing between XP and Vista
Greetings W, That is correct as the old application sharing feature does not exist on Vista and SharedView doesn't exist on XP or Vista by default. So you have to install it on both. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Shelldrake07" <Shelldrake07.3pembb@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:Shelldrake07.3pembb@DoNotSpam.com... > > So am I right in understanding that Office SharedView will run on XP and > must be installed on the XP machine if I want to application share > between my Vista machine and remote XP machine? > > I've just installed SharedView on my Vista machine, but I'm not sure > how it will communicate with remote XP machine. > > The old XP Messenger way was much better as it was easy to get someone > on the other end to do it.
