    Windows Installer

Hi, this is Windows XP Service Pack 2 and facing some problems with Windows Installer. Since past two weeks whenever I try to install any thing on computer I use to get the following error message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed."

So far I have went through various MS KB articles but none of them helped. Here is the complete log of the error messages:

    0.821: 2005/03/14 13:37:49.115 (local)
    0.821: c:\0b74de5c0472670217e7c882\UPDATE\update.exe (version 5.5.31.0)
0.861: Service Pack started with following command line:
    1.082: CheckSystem: ServicePack version Mismatch
    1.082: DoInstallation: CheckSystem Failed: 0xf06b
1.112: Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying.

There is no need to install this update.
7.110: Message displayed to the user: Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system

There is no need to install this update.
    7.110: User Input: OK
    7.110: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf06b
7.110: Update.exe return code was masked to 0x643 for MSI custom action compliance.
    Somebody please help. Many Thanks.

    Re: Windows Installer

If the problem is with Windows Installer why dont you simply download the most recent version of Installer from Microsoft and install. This will fix the problem. Get it from here: Windows Installer 3.1 now available for XP
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Apart from this there are few MS Knowledge Base articles which i would like you to go through.

The "Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed" Error Message appears When You Add or Remove Program - 1719

This update helps resolve an issue where Windows Installer running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 stops responding when you install an update.

    Windows Installer

I have had this problem for a couple of days now. When I try to run other programs, "Windows Installer" pops up and tries to load Office 2003 (which I have), but, not using at this particular time. In the installation process I get a window that states that SKU111.cab cannot be found.

The only way to close the installer is by using the ctr-alt-del, but then it pops up again. I just can't get rid of it. I have no idea what caused it to do this in the first place.

    Please keep response simple.

    Thank you,
    Gary

Just go through the below steps to get it fixed.

    • Launch Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Options, and click Advanced Tab.
    • Here find JIT (just in time compiler for JavaScript) debugging disable checkbox.
    • Try to uncheck both (browsing area) script debugging checkboxes,

Let me know if it dint worked yet.
