| SP3 - Cannot print to shared network printer
YASP3? I have a $20,000 Ricoh large format plotter that can only be printed to via a windows shared network printer shared from the computer it is connected to. Don't ask me, this is how Ricoh does it, and the plotter is one of the best. I have 20 workstations that plot constantly to this plotter. One new computer appears to have come installed with SP3, because I cannot uninstall it or roll back using system restore. That computer can add the printer, but then trying to even print a test page from the printer properties gives the error, Test page failed to print, open print troubleshooter, etc. The only difference between this computer and the others is SP3. Also, I have removed and re-added the printer several times on the SP3 printer to no avail. I also tried adding and sharing a new printer on the printer server computer and then mapping to that printer on the SP3 computer--I still receive the same error. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I'd think that Ricoh would provide some support for a $20,000 piece of equipment, even if the product isn't a current model (and providing the model number might help). Unfortunately, I cannot talk to Ricoh support, just the local guys who sold it to us, and they are clueless, saying talk to Microsoft. The model is a Ricoh Aficio 240W. The driver is RW-240 WINPRINT. Certainly, I have isolated the issue to service pack 3, and have found numerous boards with advice to completely uninstall, reinstall, re-share the printer, and re-map the printer following an install of SP3 to resolve the issue. In our case, I would like to find any other solution so that I don't disrupt the current users being able to print and also because the initial install of all the Ricoh software and setup of the printer on the computer took our local Ricoh guys 3 hours. Thanks, "Lem" wrote: > JB wrote: > > YASP3? > > > > I have a $20,000 Ricoh large format plotter that can only be printed to via > > a windows shared network printer shared from the computer it is connected to. > > Don't ask me, this is how Ricoh does it, and the plotter is one of the best. > > I have 20 workstations that plot constantly to this plotter. | Re: SP3 - Cannot print to shared network printer I'm sorry, but I only have some general thoughts, which probably won't add to things you've already tried. There doesn't appear to be a driver specific to the Aficio 240W included in those included with WinXP. I also couldn't find a driver on the Ricoh driver download page. However, there is a link on the main Avicio 240W page (http://tinyurl.com/65n3br) to something that Ricoh calls a "Universal Print Driver" -- http://www.ricoh-usa.com/solutions/c...er/default.asp Interestingly, even though this driver is linked from the 240W page, the 240W is not listed in the driver release notes. Still, you might consider trying this. The release date of the current version is only a couple of weeks ago. When uninstalling and reinstalling printer drivers, you should follow the following directions to make sure that you've really cleaned out all of the old drivers: http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm I assume that the computer that's giving you trouble is one to which the printer is *not* connected directly. That is, you're attempting to install the driver so that you can then access the printer as a shared device over the network. Because you're printing (or trying to) over the network, there may be a network issue behind this. Can you print to any other shared printers? Try turning off all firewalls and antivirus apps. I found this on the Ricoh site, which may or may not be relevant to you: Which TCP/UDP ports must be open in my firewall for the Wide Format Plotbase Server to work correctly? The ports below must be opened for the Wide Format Plotbase Server to work correctly. PORTS: FTP: 21 SNMP: 161 LPR: 515 HTTP: 80 Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck. | Re: SP3 - Cannot print to shared network printer
Delete the printer connection off the XP SP3 client. Delete all the print drivers installed. If you have MS Office installed and the printer that is installed with Office, delete it if you do not use it. If you cannot delete all the printers verify the file versions of unidrv.dll and unidrvui.dll and pscript5.dll and ps5ui.dll under \windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 If you can delete all the printer and driver verify there are no files in \windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 now make the connection to the shared printer verify the file versions under \windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 The core driver files in XP SP3 are the Vista core files but I've seen a hotfix installed for EURO symbol that causes a mismatch in these binaries. -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
