delete the folders windows downloaded installations and service pack files ?

I want to free hard drive space and therefore would like to delete the folders windows downloaded installations and service pack files. Can this be done? Shall I save those on any external drive? Thanks.

You can use Windows Disk Cleanup utility to create more space on your C: drive, check the below link on "Description of the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XP":

You can try to delete the uninstall file first and then remove it from the control panel. You will also get an error about it and then the option to remove it from the listing. Incase you dont get that error message, then you havent deleted the uninstall file, then you wouldnt proceed.
