| Desktop. No Icons. No Task Bar. No Task Manager. HELP ME
So yesterday I was surfing the web and talking to some friends. All of a sudden bunch of porn pops up and on my desktop 3 icons pop up. "Cheap Pharmacy" "VIP CASINO" "Search Online" I knew that i had been hit by a virus because i had the same problem last time with Vundo. I easliy fixed Vundo so i thought i could fix this. I first deleted those icons and all of a sudden my computer restarts. When im at the desktop the wallpaper is different and it says "Windows Protection Click Here to Save!" It was obviously fake so ignored it and open my BitDefender. Also a bunch of error messages popped up like "dwwin.exe error" and "dumprep.exe error" and they wouldnt stop popping up. I had it scan and I found 34 Viruses! I had them deleted but 3 had "No Action Possible" I believe the name of the virus was close to Critical 32 or something. I decided to restart and the User selection screen was different. I typed my password and it showed my usual desktop backround. I was waiting for the icons and taskbar to show up but they never did. I decided to open Task Manger and type exeplorer.exe but everytime i hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete the message "dwwin.exe error" and "dumprep.exe" showed up again. Please help me! I need solutions! I have so much important files in there that I cant afford to lose! Any ideas would be appreciated! |

Dear ily924, Your statement "I have so much important files in there that I cant afford to lose!" is the reason for my reply. I have a 1TB USB external hard drive and every night, the last thing I do is backup all important data Like application data, desktop etc... in documents and settings and my documents (I also use a freeware program called Idlebackup but, there are a number of good commercial programs out there). Why? because in the past I have lost a hard drive twice due to hardware failure. Both times I had everything backed up and while restoring my system is not something that I would want to do every morning, it certainly was comforting to know that the data I had worked so hard to create was safe and only a matter of restoring from the backup. You use your computer to do a lot of things that are meaningful. Don't allow some hacker or the the mistaken belief that all things will always work and never fail to use you. Backup your data. If it were not so important then why do most companies do it so religiously?...Nuff Said. |
