    No sound - need driver?

I had recently formatted my computer (bad idea!) and there's no more sound. I'm guessing it's b/c the driver has not been installed. The mother board is ASUS P5L-MX (Analog Devices AD1986A). I downloaded the newest driver (Asus SoundMax AD1986A 64bit Audio Driver V5.10.02.4153) from ASUS's website but after I installed it, I got the message like "not supported by your computer hardware".

Is that possible? I'm sure the motherboard model is correct but have no idea why the driver would not install.

    Help......

You can find the drivers on the official website of motherboard manufacturer. I had given you a link below. Just go the the support section and there click on Download. You can then choose the right OS from the drop down list and then install it in your pc. Download all the drivers and keep them safe in your pc. Whenever you will format you will need the drivers. Make a disc of the same and then test back.

How do I tell if my XP is 32bit or 64bit?
Actually, I tried both.....I even tried other OS (yes, I'm that desparate)....

All end up with the following msg:
"Installation failed! The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware. Note: If you installed audio software without restarting your PC, restart now, then run this setup again."

Maximum system are 32bit. You can find that by right clicking on My Computer > Properties. In the first window itself you can get information on the operating and cpu. You have to find proper drivers on the basis of OS you have in your pc. You can also try some different drivers one by one and through installation via device manager can install the sound driver.

Actually, I have tried both 32bit & 64bit - both yielded the same error msg.

Also, I went to ASUS's website and the site automatically detects my mobo, all I needed to do is select the O/S - which is XP.

    Sigh....
